How to Make Money on Clickbank And Build Residual Income

Imagine making 75% commissions by recommending products that you didn’t even create. In a previous post, I discussed the wonders of becoming an Amazon Associate and how easy it is to make money selling other people’s products.

Well I wanna shed light on a different affiliate program… Clickbank.

While the majority of products you promote on Amazon are physical products like cameras and camping gear, Clickbank’s sole purpose is to sell digital products like eBooks and video courses.

Today I’m gonna show you how to make money with Clickbank and how easy it can be regardless of your niche. If done correctly, you’re looking at building a residual income that’s sure to advance you on your Millionaire Quest.

How Does Clickbank Work?

Clickbank has been around for years. Way before the internet became a household name, Clickbank was established back in 1998 and has been connecting consumers to digital products ever since.

With Clickbank, you have the option of either signing up as an affiliate or a merchant. Merchants are the ones creating the products and affiliates(that’s you) are the ones promoting the products.

Most of the products on Clickbank are actually sold by individuals trying to expand their brand versus big name companies. Experienced affiliate marketer Stefan James from Project Life Mastery has his Kindle publishing training, K-Money Mastery up on Clickbank so you catch my drift.

We’re not trying to create or promote our own products though… let someone else do the work right? LOL

Signing up for the Clickbank affiliate program is simple; you fill out some personal details, your website’s info, and how you plan to promote Clickbank products, and you’re in!

With thousands of digital products available in dozens of niches, there’s no reason for you to not take advantage of the high commissions Clickbank pays out. Some of these include:

  • Investing
  • Home and Garden
  • E-business and Marketing
  • Health and Fitness
  • Travel
  • Sports
  • Cooking

These are some of the niches for which you can find affiliate products to promote. Within these categories, there are also subcategories that are more specific towards any niche.

The way it works is you find a product, click Promote, and share your affiliate link. If someone makes a purchase using your affiliate link, you earn a commission.

How to Make Money with Clickbank and Make A Killing

There are many ways to promote Clickbank products. The key is to find what works best for you and your audience. It all comes down to your niche, your budget, and where your audience likes to hang out. For the most part though, these are the best ways to promote Clickbank products.

Your Blog/YouTube Channel

Do you have a blog? That’s great, you’re already halfway there! If your blog focuses on a particular niche, then promoting Clickbank products is a great way to monetize your blog.

So the first thing you’re gonna do is find a product that solves your readers’ problems. We’ll use my food blog as an example for the remainder of this post. Let’s say my readers are looking for a way to stay in shape while still eating at the restaurants I recommend and trying out my recipes.

This means looking in the Cooking, Food, and Wine section.

Once I find a product I like, it’s time to do some keyword research. Next it’s time to do some product research. The best way to do this is to check out other reviews and YouTube videos about the product you want to promote; or you can purchase the product yourself and give it your honest input.

After you’ve done your research, you’re going to create a thorough product review. Make sure you include images of the product and don’t forget your affiliate links; otherwise you don’t get paid.

Once your review is published, feel free to share it with as many people as possible. Remember the more traffic you get, the more likely you are to get some sales!

If you’d rather use your YouTube channel, then you can pretty much follow the same guidelines; you’d just be reviewing the product through a video instead of written content.

Facebook Ads

If you don’t feel like going through the trouble of reviewing the products you wish to promote, then you can just send paid traffic to your affiliate links.

Keep in mind that while this method works, you’re not truly building a relationship with your audience which means they might not buy from you ever again. It’s a lot easier to sell to a current customer than it is trying to sell to a brand new customer who has no idea who you are.

This is however the quickest way to start getting some sales in and building momentum.

The first thing you need is to create a Facebook page that targets your niche. If you already have a blog, then just create a Facebook page for your blog.

**NOTE- You’re gonna need a Facebook page in order to run ads!

After you’ve created your page, head over to Ads Manager to start creating a Facebook ad. The key to a successful ad is narrowing your audience down as much as possible.

Remember that if you try to sell to everyone, you’ll end up selling to no one.

Create your first ad by targeting your audience based on your niche. Sticking with my food blog, I’d probably target fans of Food Network or Bobby Flay as an example. This is much more specific than if I were to target people interested in “cooking”.

Makes sense right?

Your ad should not focus on promoting the product, but how the product is a solution to your audience’s problem. It’s okay if you don’t have a huge budget, you can start with as little as $1 a day and scale until you’re happy with your earnings.

Here’s the tricky part… you can either redirect your audience to the product’s sales page or to a landing page you have created.

If you’re still new to affiliate marketing, then just send them to the sales page. If you want to see results and have some experience, then send them to a landing page.

When you direct them to a landing page, you get to collect their emails.

Which leads me to my final tactic…

Email List

I’m sure you’ve heard by now that the money is in the list.

If you already have an established email list, then all you have to do is send out a couple of emails explaining the product you’re promoting and why your readers need it.

If you’re just building your email list, then you’re gonna want to combine the Facebook ads tactic with blogging. With your blog, all you have to do is add a sign up form that gives your readers an incentive to give you their email. Once you have their email, send them an email with your affiliate links promoting the product.

You’re gonna need to set up an email auto responder like Aweber in order to collect emails.

Tips for Promoting Clickbank Products

While making money on Clickbank sounds pretty straightforward, there are a few tips I wanna share with you so that you get the most out of this affiliate program.

1. Search for high gravity products- High gravity products are products that other affiliates are promoting and actually making sales from. The higher the gravity, the more likely you are to get results of your own.

2. Look for products with recurring sales- This one’s important if you’re serious about building a residual income. Recurring sales means you sold the product once, but there’s a monthly membership. As long as your customers keep paying monthly, you keep earning!

3. Promote high quality products- Do not get tempted to promote shitty products with high commissions just so you can quit your job faster. That’s not cool and honestly, would it really feel like a victory if you’re lying to people in order to make a living?

4. Take advantage of affiliate tools- Many of the products on Clickbank offer affiliate tools to help you promote their products better. Things like banner ads and email swipe copy can help a lot in the long run.

5. Be honest. If the product sucks, don’t say it’s the best thing you’ve ever seen.

Putting it All Together

Now that you know how to make money with Clickbank and do it right, it’s time for you to take action. Your homework for today is to find 5 Clickbank products you can review or promote.

Make sure they are relevant to your niche and fall under the qualifications I mentioned above.

    1. Hey Jerry,

I’m not too crazy about the make money products either, but there are some that actually provide value. While most are only good enough to get you started, some do go above and beyond; but can get expensive fast.

It’s all about doing your research and testing the products to see what will be best for your audience. If the product is good, it’s one more thing your audience can benefit from. If it’s bad, at least they learned it from you before wasting their time and money.

  1. This is very interesting! I’ve never used clickbank and up until now all my energy was focused on Amazon Affiliates.

I run a hiking blog, do you think that Clickbank is still worth my time? What sort of things could I sell related to hiking?

My final question is: would you say it’s easier to make a residual income from Clickbank than Amazon?

    1. Hi Stephen,

You can check out the Clickbank marketplace to see if any of their products are relevant to your hiking blog. I know they have an outdoor sports section so start there. There’s hunting tutorials and fishing eBooks; not sure if it’s relevant to hiking.

As far as residual income goes, many Clickbank products have a recurring monthly fee which is where your residual income is made. Amazon Associates only pays you per purchase.

  2. The article is great, it is really useful to understand about Click Bank, types of products and how to promote ClickBank products.

But I also found that, at this time, although the product of Click Bank is very diverse but also very competitive.

The most important thing is to find the right product in demand, a niche market and the effort to promote to succeed with Click Bank.

    1. Hey Tivana,

Thanks for commenting. I agree there is a lot of competition when it comes to promoting Clickbank products which is why understanding SEO is so important.

The more creative you get with your keywords, the more likely you are to rank in the search engines without competing for popular keywords that are relevant to the Clickbank product you’re promoting.

  3. Hello, and thanks for sharing I have heard so much about click bank and what they have to offer some good and not so good but the good part is you can take what is for you and I guess try to build on that. I heard that they offer some good commissions.

    1. Hello Norman,

You’re absolutely right. While there are some stinkers as far as products on Clickbank go, there are also some really good products on there that your audience can benefit from. It’s true that the commissions are a little higher than other affiliate programs and it’s because the cost of producing digital products is way smaller than physical products.
